Alleyway finds of Hong Kong

Fresh home, fresh home! The place where it bring back many great memories for myself. Hong Kong known Asia’s financial city and capital city of food. Hong Kong offers a variety of different foods that will cover different cuisines around the world.

Kam Wah Cafe & Bakery

I start off with a visit to a local Cha Chaan Teng aka straight-forward dining which was introduced in the 50s-60s for cheap and western like meals to working class people. The wonderful pineapple bun with a slice of butter called as Bo Lo Yau was my choice from their menu. It was an irresistible treat for the taste buds, especially in the late morning. It was a subtle contrast between the very light sweet of the bun to the salt of the cold butter. This I think will leave a long lasting impression on people new to Chinese bakery. It's hardly the healthiest option, but who cares about calories when you're indulging in such a delicious creation? I also try their Hong Kong style milk tea (nai-cha). This is simply a strong black tea with evaporated milk. Both are popular within the locals however the nai-cha was only created during the British colonial rule, which introduced adding milk to tea which people in Hong Kong, many people wouldn’t do. Overall, this place is a must when visiting Hong Kong as the cheap prices here are too good for what you get.

Kau Kee

Next stop is Kau Kee, this place located in central, Hong Kong island is home to many local’s favourite. Especially when people only come here for their soup noodles such as their wonton noodle soup and all different cuts of beef noodle soup. Lines can be seen stretching down the block before reaching to the restaurant. For me, I went for the beef brisket noodle soup as this cut tends to be tender if cooked properly with a mixture of lean and fatty meat in one bite. In Kau Kee, every bowl will be stacked with tender, delicious marbled beef brisket. Following that the soup base is smooth with a crystal clear appearance. Noodles add a good touch with that extra chewy bounce for firmness. The meal was superb, knowing that this was what I was after in the Michelin restaurant. Only thing to consider is to maybe order more than one bowl as a bowl didn’t really make me satisfied. Also, this place is a quick diner, you come order, eat and leave. This is due to the fact that it is very busy with big queues.
